Saint Mary of Egypt lived as a hermit in the desert for 47 years. At the end of her life, she crossed the waters of the Jordan—by God’s grace—to receive Holy Communion from the monk Zosimus. This sign of her intimate union with Christ in the Eucharist is still venerated in church tradition today.
