During Mass at the “Christ the King” church in Vilakkannur (Kerala), the priest Fr. Thomas Pathickal noticed a dark spot on the host as he elevated it, which became lighter during the course of the Eucharistic ceremony and eventually transformed into the face of Jesus Christ—a clear, awe-inspiring image that was also confirmed by the sacristan.
After a careful local and theological-scientific examination process, including investigations by the Syro-Malabar Theologians’ Conference and expert opinions from the International Theological Commission (Rome), the Vatican recognized the event in May 2025 as a Eucharistic miracle and permitted public veneration of the host as a testimony of faith.
